Filling in the splits (rights percentages) is of great importance for setting up your account in Smart Manager.
During the initial setup of your account, you must have imported analytical reports of works and/or recordings, depending on the type of your company. This import automatically filled in the splits of the rights related to public performance (which you can always edit or import new updated files).
Following that import, these values may be copied, where applicable, to reflect the same division in other types of music rights. This way, if the values are the same between rights, it will not be necessary to manually enter the percentages (splits), just copy them as shown below.
Tip: It is suggested to have a spreadsheet containing the contractual percentages of the products at hand, to speed up the execution of this task.
How it’s done
In this case, we will use as an example a work in which we want to copy the information of percentages of public performance to the digital mechanic rights, since we also want to collect and process these values.
Enter the tab of the managed asset (work, recording, product, channel, video, or owners) that you want to copy the percentage information.
01- Work splits
Then, click on the “Copy from” button (right next to the “Add split” button), from the right where you want to copy the information and a box will appear for you to select which right you would like to copy from. Note that in “Public Performance” we already have the information of a composer/author which is where we are going to copy the information to the right of “Digital Mechanic”.
By clicking on the checkbox that appeared when you click on “Copy from”, a window will appear with the possible options of where to copy the information. In this case, we select “Public Performance” and click on the “OK” button. The window closes displaying the option selected in the checkbox. Click on the green button with the “check” icon to start the copy that lasts a few seconds.
03- Select which right to copy the information from
With the copied information, you can change the “Function” or “Category” of participation of each holder and its percentage, if it is not the same as the copied music right.
In this case, there was only one holder to copy, but we have cases where there are many accompanying musicians and other right owners, which makes management much easier.
